Vintage Paper Mache/Oilcloth Mexican Marionette Souvenir Gourd Doll with Sombrero & Suit. These were sold as souvenirs throughout Mexico in 1960s.
Size: 10.5 inches and approximately 4 inches wide.
Condition: Very Good for age: Excellent color, small hole in shirt, and paint cracked on one cheek and neck. Some small paint loss on painted areas.
Style: Painted stuffed oilcloth over wire frame. He has metal puppet loops on outer shoulders although no holes pierced through jacket. He wears a beige fabric jacket and trousers and holds a woven straw sombrero. Small velvet flower pinned to chest. Very detailed feet of nylon hoisery with lots of stitching and leather sandals. His hair is comprised of very soft soft, synthetic fur. His face is is handpainted oil cloth. I believe that he has a metal core, so may be slightly posable. He can stand on her own, but would be best with a support stand. Small pins attach hat to hands, at jacket neck closure, pant cuff closure & at flower detail.
Age: Best Guess? 1950s-1970s.
Shipping: Doll will be carefully wrapped in new tissue paper, with silica gel desiccant, and shipped in a sturdy box with padding.
